Sales training and telemarketing thoughts

Global warming? More like wallet-warming!

I am writing from the first floor office here in chilly London UK. As I look out I can see a foot of snow. The first real snow of the year. So whatever happened to global warming I am asking myself.

But this reminded me of an incident a couple of years ago when a sales manager mentioned to me that bad weather is terrible for sales. I asked why? If you sell ice cream makers or air conditioners I could believe that the prospects’ focus might be elsewhere. But otherwise, why is it different from any other day?

The sales manager said that it meant that his road warriors could not get out to prospects. And the internal sales team were despondent because everyone they called complained it was chaos because they were snowed in.

What a load of nonsense! These are the same people that say that summer and Christmas are bad times to telesell. Rubbish. Pish! Poppycock! Since everyone says that and most people have little to do it is a GREAT time to call, as our evidence shows us year after year.

Bad sales people make excuses; good sales people make money. The road warriors might struggle to get through the clogged roads but I bet their phones are working.

And, guess what? It is exactly the same for the prospects. Many of them have cancelled appointments and are now stuck at their desks!!! Need I say more about what a wonderful opportunity this represents. “Half full glass”, that is all I have to say. Now go and get the results you deserve.
